Every night we are afraid to fall asleep, because when we wake up, Brussels has one more scar. Beauty has left architecture and its loss is cruel. Our cities are becoming uglier and we feel powerless to change the course of events. This is why La Table Ronde de l'Architecture, an association born in Brussels, is drawing up counter-projects to show citizens that an alternative to globalized architecture is not only possible, but desirable.
For the first time, La Table Ronde de l'Architecture is presenting its work to the general public in several emblematic venues in the capital in the form of a travelling exhibition entitled 'The Ark'.
A new face for Place de Brouckère, a new skin for the very grey and sinister Tour de Sablon, reinvented streets and a new way of life in Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Namur, Ghent, new cities springing up in Belgium, United Kingdom, France and Germany... Everything is possible and the only limit to architecture is imagination.
To put an end to the insipid architecture of glass and concrete, la Table Ronde de l'Architecture invites you to discover a selection of 50 projects that give pride and shed light onto art, craftsmanship, natural materials and the glorious styles that once made Brussels one of the most beautiful cities in the world. During the exhibition you will have the opportunity to meet architects from all over the world who are fighting for the revival of traditional and local architecture, craftsmen perpetuating our skills and city-lovers of history.
